The materials in Preparing for Technical Training: Floorlayers were developed by SkillPlan in partnership with the Floorlayers Training Centre, as a home study package for beginning apprentices.

Preparing for Technical Training provides an opportunity to practice and assess Essential Skills. The math assessment provides practice with and without a calculator. Examples are provided to help with math functions that need review. Four reading and numeracy problem sets reflect real on-the-job and technical training requirements of apprentices. The answer key allows users to mark and assess their work.

The material is also appropriate for people considering a career in the construction trades. The problem sets provide a simulation of workplace tasks that a Floorlayer typically encounters. For those who have been out of school for a few years, the publication demonstrates the Essential Skills required by apprentices and provides an opportunity to prepare for success in training.
