About the author
Alison Sawyer, BA, LLB, was called to the bar in Ontario in 1977 and in British Columbia in 1982. She was the Director of Training for the B.C. Legal Services Society from 1982 to 1986, and a staff lawyer in the Vancouver intake office of the legal Services Society from 1987 to 1991. From 1991 to 1999, she ran a private practice specializing in family law and immigration issues. She has had considerable experience in public legal education.
