Adult Learners Welcome Here: A Handbook for Librarians and Literacy Teachers (Paperback)
by Robert Wedgeworth (Foreword), Marguerite Crowley Weibel (Author)

From Booklist
As public libraries continue to address adult literacy issues, this volume provides practical, tested strategies. The first three chapters explain the role of the public library as a literacy classroom and an important part of the community's effort to respond to literacy issues. Five chapters of lessons and annotated bibliographies follow, each focusing on a unique subject and format. The first uses art and photography as a bridge to reading, the second uses poetry to address the visceral experience of reading, the third explores the human condition through fiction, the fourth focuses on using nonfiction to pursue personal interests and needs, and the fifth details information literacy through reference tools. The accompanying bibliographies rate the reading level of each resource as a help in advising adult emerging readers. The last chapter serves as a coda for coalition building. Two appendixes provide notes and further reading. This accessible book should be a welcome addition for public libraries considering adult literacy programs. Farmer, Lesley

This is by far superior to the American Edition which costs half as much. The extra money spent will be well worth it. After all there is a lifetime of adventure embedded in this volume.
